Dr. Tae J. Oh draws on nearly 30 years of experience living as a Korean immigrant in the United States. This personal journey has given her a deep understanding of the unique challenges faced by first-generation immigrants, multicultural families, and their second- and third-generation children as they navigate relationships, identity, and adaptation across diverse cultural contexts. Dr. Oh earned a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting from George Mason University and later volunteered for many years with a non-profit organization dedicated to family restoration. Through this work, she witnessed firsthand how many immigrant families struggled with emotional and practical challenges due to limited access to supportive resources. These experiences became a meaningful turning point that led her to pursue a professional path in counseling. She later earned a Master’s degree in Professional Counseling from Washington University of Virginia and a Ph.D. in Marriage and Family Therapy from Daybreak University in California. With more than 15 years of clinical experience, Dr. Oh integrates a range of therapeutic approaches to help clients develop deeper insight into their inner experiences and express themselves in healthy and constructive ways. She works with individuals, couples, and families to strengthen emotional awareness, cultivate empathy, and improve communication within relationships. Through this process, clients experience emotional healing while building healthier and more authentic connections. Her counseling approach integrates both individual and relational perspectives, recognizing that personal struggles often emerge within the broader context of relationships, family dynamics, and cultural experiences. Within this integrative framework, she helps clients gain meaningful insight and move toward lasting change in their personal lives and relationships. Guided by her belief that “change is possible,” Dr. Oh approaches counseling with the conviction that clients already possess the inner capacity for healing and growth. She strives to create a safe and welcoming environment where those who take the courageous step to seek counseling can explore their authentic selves without judgment and begin their journey toward healing. She believes that trust and connection between counselor and client form the foundation of effective therapy and offers thoughtful guidance and steady support as clients work through life’s challenges and move toward meaningful goals. Dr. Oh understands that emotional struggles such as depression, anxiety, compulsions, anger, loss, and spiritual conflicts often develop into recurring relational patterns. She works thoughtfully with clients to help them recognize these patterns and gradually create healthier relational cycles in their lives. By providing evidence-based, integrative counseling that considers each client’s cultural background, family context, and personal experiences, she supports clients in experiencing gradual growth and restoration both within themselves and in their relationships. Outside of her counseling work, Dr. Oh maintains balance in body and mind through daily stretching and self-care practices. She finds rest and inspiration in nature—the gentle breeze, the sound of flowing water, and the changing colors of the sky during quiet walks. These moments of mindfulness bring warmth and vitality to her counseling practice. Above all, her faith provides enduring motivation and purpose, guiding her to accompany clients on their journeys with empathy, hope, and humility.

For over 20 years, I have worked with children, adolescents, and adult-both individually and in groups. My clinical practice has not been limited to psychiatric hospitals or mental health centers; I have also worked in various settings, including child therapy and parent counseling in community environments such as schools and educational organizations. Through my experience in career counseling, art psychotherapy research centers, and counseling clinic, I have come to deeply believe in the strength and resilience of clients. As they engage in art work, they explore on their emotions and needs, taking time to re-assess and rebuild their experience. Through this process, ultimately, clients identify and reinforce their strengths. I have had the privilege of witnessing these remarkable moments, and I will continue to walk alongside my clients as a counselor.

We are wounded in relationships, and we heal within relationships. Therefore, I strive to view the client’s concerns not as isolated individual issues but through the lens of family therapy, adopting a healing-centered approach. Drawing from Carl Rogers’ client-centered theory, I incorporate the IPCST (Internal Parent-Child System Therapy) model and family systems theory to guide the direction and content of therapeutic interventions, with a particular focus on individual issues. For couples counseling, I apply the Imago Relationship Therapy model to address the challenges faced by couples, emphasizing the relational dynamics at the core of their concerns. This evidence-based relational therapy approach prioritizes your unique experiences, thoughts, and emotions, helping you develop deeper insights, enhance self-awareness, and create meaningful change in your life. As a counselor, I am committed to fostering a facilitative therapeutic relationship by embodying Carl Rogers’ core conditions: authenticity (congruence), unconditional positive regard, and empathic understanding. These principles support the process of becoming what Rogers termed a fully functioning person. Additionally, I aim to provide client-centered, tailored treatments that are both supportive and culturally sensitive, ensuring they align with the diverse backgrounds present in multicultural American society. My approach emphasizes safety, trust, and collaboration throughout the therapeutic process.
